Worship

Worship is, of course, a central part of our life at St Peter’s. We have three weekly services. On Sunday mornings at 8:00 a.m. we celebrate the Holy Eucharist; at 10:30 we celebrate a choral Eucharist. A nursery is provided and our Children’s Chapel service takes place at that time as well. On Wednesdays at 12:10 p.m. we celebrate a Healing Eucharist combining the sacraments of Eucharist and Annointing.

In the church worship is the work of the people. Jesus has taught us that “where two or three are gathered” he will be in the midst of us. Each Sunday we have numerous people taking part in the services, offering their ministries is the various roles listed below.

Acolytes
The Acolyte Guild is composed of adults and youth. They are cross-trained so that as they grow in ability, they can take on many of the responsibilities of serving at our Lord's Table. An acolyte is an altar server . In fact, the origin of the word "acolyte" is from the Greek for server. Acolytes carry the processional cross, candles and the Gospel Book in and out of the sanctuary during worship services. They also carry torches, incense, and Banners. They may assist with setting the table for communion, and holding the flagons of wine for the Lay Eucharistic Ministers. Any responsible boy or girl in at least 6th grade or 11years old can be an acolyte.

Lay Eucharistic Ministers
The Lay Eucharistic Ministers, or Lectors and Chalice Bearers, are a very dedicated group serving at both Sunday Services and most special services. They read the Bible lessons during the services, lead the Prayer's of the People, and assist in the celebration of the Eucharist. St. Peter's is also very honored to have a Verger as part of our Liturgical staff. A verger assists the priest during worship - particularly when there is a procession. The Office of the Verger dates back to the Middle Ages and was the "Protector of the Procession."

The Altar Guild
The Altar Guild at St. Peter's works in teams with each team preparing the altar for Sunday servcies as well as any additional services during the week. The Guild is well-known for the beautiful, creative decorations they provide in the church for Advent, Christmas, Palm Sunday, Easter and Thanksgiving. The Guild meets once a month to discuss upcoming services, events of the church and other business.

Ushers
The Ushers provide a "First Impression" for newcomers and visitors at St. Peter's. Over 25 parishioners serve as ushers on a rotating basis at both Sunday services.

Music
St. Peter's is fortunate to have a gifted organist/choirmaster on staff who has assisted the Music Ministry to grow and serve well in its primary assignment of providing the highest possible quality of worship music for the 10:30 a.m. Sunday services. This ministry involves many persons of varying ages presenting the congregation with strong hymn leadership, creative service music, and sensitive performances of quality music literature.
