Christian Education
On Wednesday evenings, following our delicious Wonderful Wednesday dinners, a presentation is given or a lesson is taught. The evening is brought to a thoughtful close by the praying of Compline together, the Church’s “goodnight prayers.” The lessons and presentations can be one a variety of subjects. Past speakers have taught on topics including the Bible, crime prevention, outreach opportunities, and personal reflections of the life of faith. We even enjoy a game time from time to time.
On Sunday mornings at 9:15 our adult education offerings include Bible studies and Newcomer’s/Inquirer’s classes for those seeking to join St Peter’s and those preparing for Baptism or Confirmation. Our youth group, St Peter’s Youth (or SPY) meets on Sunday mornings at 9:15 as well. They share donuts and discussion on a wide variety of topics.
A Children’s Chapel service is offered during the first part of our 10:30 service to allow our children a place to worship in an age-appropriate manner and to learn about our beliefs and traditions. The service they use is directly adapted from the Book of Common Prayer and a Children’s Chapel has been constructed to resemble “the big church.” Children join their parents in the pews halfway through the service so families may take Communion together.
Our gifted DIrector of Music Ministries, Eleanor Taylor, leads our St Mark’s children’s choir which follows the curriculum of the Royal School of Church Music and covers not just music theory but also church traditions and history and liturgy.
Vacation Bible School is traditionally a major production at St. Peter's and a strong part of our life and outreach. With its lavish decorations and creative themes, it is a week long adventure held each summer and annually draws 50 - 75 youngsters from the church and the community at large.
